This page explains how CriptoNewsLive sources, calculates, and displays cryptocurrency market data.
Live price data
Cryptocurrency prices are sourced from the Binance API. On coin detail pages, prices update in real-time via WebSocket connections to Binance's market stream. The price displayed reflects the latest trade price for the coin's USDT pair on Binance (e.g. BTCUSDT for Bitcoin).
Market capitalisation
Market capitalisation is calculated as circulating supply multiplied by the current price. Circulating supply figures are sourced from CoinGecko and cached for up to four hours.
24-hour change
The 24-hour percentage change is calculated from the opening price 24 hours prior, as reported by the Binance 24hr ticker endpoint. This is a rolling 24-hour window, not a calendar day comparison.
Coin rankings
Coins are ranked by market capitalisation in descending order as provided by CoinGecko. Rankings are refreshed every four hours. Stablecoins, wrapped tokens, and exchange tokens are excluded from the main ranking.
Technical indicators
Technical indicators are calculated client-side using historical OHLCV candlestick data from the Binance klines endpoint. Standard industry formulas are used:
- RSI-14: Relative Strength Index over 14 periods using Wilder's smoothing method.
- SMA: Simple Moving Average — arithmetic mean of closing prices over N periods.
- EMA: Exponential Moving Average using a smoothing factor of 2/(N+1).
- MACD: Difference between EMA-12 and EMA-26, with a 9-period signal line.
- Bollinger Bands: SMA-20 ± 2 standard deviations of closing prices.
- ATR-14: Average True Range over 14 periods.
- Williams %R: Momentum oscillator over 14 periods.
- Stochastic %K: Position of closing price relative to the 14-period high-low range.
Indicators are informational only and do not constitute financial advice or trading signals.
News aggregation
News articles are aggregated from RSS feeds published by ten established cryptocurrency news outlets. Articles are fetched, deduplicated, and sorted by publication date without editorial modification.
Fiat currency conversion
Fiat exchange rates (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY) are sourced from ExchangeRate-API and refreshed on page load. If the rate source is unavailable, conversion results are not displayed to avoid showing inaccurate figures.
